In Defense of Film

I was one of the early adopters of digital photography, way back in 2005. It was a simpler time then. A new Batman movie starring Christian Bale was about to be released. George Bush was president. The U.S. was involved in wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. A new invention called the iPod had only been[more…]

Packing for Destination Weddings

I get asked a lot about how I pack for a destination wedding.  In order to have the proper back up equipment, I am usually packing at least two cameras, two flashes, multiple lenses, batteries, memory cards, and I need to make sure everything fits on the plane under the seat in front of[more…]

Guests with Cameras

How to get along with guests with cameras Without fail, every wedding I am hired to shoot is going to have at least one self proclaimed unofficial photographer. My News Years Resolution

Happy New Year, everyone. OK, in addition to being less nerdy. I have some more serious resolutions for 2012. In addition to the usual resolutions such as to ski and ride my bike more, loose weight, and spend more time with my family, this year I want to pay special attention to my art.

The Importance of the Engagement Session

Engagement sessions are a great opportunity for couples to get to know their photographer. The engagement session gives the photographer a chance to understand what the couple is looking for in terms of photos, and it gives the couples a chance to see how their photographer works. I like to think of it as a[more…]
