I was introduced to Lisa and Salvador through a mutual photographer friend. I was delighted when they asked me to photograph their destination wedding at the Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. Destination weddings are a lot of fun to photograph, but they require a very particular skill set. For starters, it is important for the photographer to be very self contained. That means having everything I need including backup equipment in my carry on bag to avoid being separated from my gear. I also need to have the computer equipment with me in order to back up images before getting home. Check out my blog posts on what I pack, and how I back up in the field.

Lisa and Salvador’s wedding was particular fun to photograph. We were graced with just a bit of rain that resulted in a beautiful rainbow just behind their ceremony cite. The folks at Turtle Bay said that happens fairly often on this part of the Hawaii. Despite packing light for a destination wedding, I still managed to bring enough tools to do some off camera lighting at the reception, which I think really helped add to the drama of such a beautiful venue.
